The godfather 3 reference in my opinion is to take down all of ones enemies at the same time. That was kind of the highlight of the movie. During the wedding all of the other mafia family's bosses were executed.
I live in the bay area and would have a home in each state if this happened. California cant declare independance, they may symbolically vote for it, but its not going to ever happen.
