Bill granting Oregon's electoral votes to national popular vote winner heads to governor's desk

The Oregon House voted overwhelmingly to pass legislation that would award the state’s Electoral College votes to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote in a presidential election.

The state chamber voted to advance the measure, also known as Senate Bill 870, in a 37-22 vote on Tuesday, CNN reported. The bill, which sailed through the state Senate earlier this year, now heads to Democratic Gov. Kate Brown for consideration.

The Trump administration announced Wednesday that government scientists will no longer be able to use fetal tissue in their research

Fetal tissue has long been a hot-button topic for anti-abortionists

It is used in studies on how childhood cancers develop

Privately-funded research will still be legal

HIV research at UCSF was specifically cut off in the Wednesday announcement

Other universities with active grants for fetal tissue research will be allowed to continue their work, for now
