The powers-that-be in Palm Beach County that were trying to make a serious slam-dunk case against Epstein go away. The feds got involved after the police chief threw a fit.

The fed charges were less severe and harder to prove that the state ones, but because the feds became involved Epstein did agree to plead to two felony state charges, and is hence now a felon.
