POTUS signed a bill back in October to give out free Narcan like candy and help fight the opiate epidemic.
It is never discussed in the media because it has been highly effective in saving lives and helping those that are struggling. Narcan reverses the effects from a opiate overdose and saves thousands of lives daily.
A huge focus was also put on peer support for addicts!
Struggling users can develop a relationship with individuals that were once sitting in the same chair.
The old programs with techniques and methods from a masters degree social worker would send a sober person running to a dealer. These programs are typically like this because insurance companies need to feel their money is being put to good use. They want some type of documentation of what is happening and how the "patient" is progressing. Sadly this is just a company that has NO knowledge on the topic and relies on what they are told is a sound solution. It is hard for them to see the monetary value of what peer support offers.
Would an insurance company feel comfortable paying the salary of an ex heroin addict?
Or would they want a college educated clown that has all their degrees on the wall at home.
Picture a preppy blonde out of college trying to help a hardcore addict with stories and experiences that would disgust the person that is trying to help them.
The latter, unfortunately is supposed to hold some type of weight but sadly puts 2 individuals with profoundly different backgrounds in a room.
Addicts have do crazy and horrible things and they need to talk to others that have done the fucked up shit they have done. Change cannot happen by talking with someone from a wildly different societal background. It casts a feeling of shame and guilt every time they discuss their darkest secrets and issues.

Hearing stories from people that were once living under a bridge turns a helpless man into a hopeful man.
A human lives in society improve because of the real life experiences passed on from each other.
Truly remarkable.
Unfortunately there is NO media coverage on this great achievement.
They refuse to report on the successes of Trump and must brainwash society by repeating the classic "Trump is a Racist…Xenophobe…Narcissist…Bigot…Sexist".
