Massive NYPD search underway for missing cop in Brooklyn near Plumb Beach

Cops flooded the area around Plumb Beach in Brooklyn Thursday in a massive search for a missing veteran detective after his empty car was found there.

Dozens of officers scoured the Sheepshead Bay area with bloodhounds in the search for Det. Joseph Calabrese, who is assigned to the Brooklyn South Homicide Squad and is a longtime board member on the Detectives Endowment Association, sources said.

The 58-year-old Calabrese was last seen about midnight, the sources said. The car was found near the Belt Parkway in Plumb Beach, a recreation area south of Gerritsen Beach off the Belt Parkway.

The detective joined the NYPD in 1982.

“It’s a big scene over there,” a second source said.
