You can look at this in reverse. If the intel/Five Eyes community sees all that traffics the ELINT/SIGINT channels…and Wikileaks would've been watched very closely…and the information DID NOT move over the air or wires, then it had to have been physically removed.
It's a very simple log review at that point so see who, where, when the data was copied. Detective work goes both ways and the black hats play a mean game. Sometimes you find stuff by accident when looking for something else. Either way, pretty sure they (DS) caught SR looking at download logs.
