POTUS was too strong to criticize. Entire trip showed POTUS/US entourage had enormous respect for the traditions and values of the European nation states. Blew away the US/EU MSM narrative.
POTUS cemetery speech was very positive and described and detailed the sacrifices and efforts of each of the allies in the D-Day invasion. Extremely gracious and much admiration for the French public in general, who established the cemetery and adopted grave sites in the cemetery itself. As always, POTUS acknowledged the strength of the common folk in a fight fro freedom for all.
One can't lead in to or follow up a positive and inclusive speech with a sniping one and not look like a turd in a punchbowl. Even Pelosi blew off Andrea Mitchell's attempt at a diss interview by saying she (Pelosi) doesn't, 'on principle', criticize the president while she's on foreign soil. Sure, she doesn't. It would have backfired this time is the real reason.
My take is Macron (Merkel) are kissing up looking for info. They're out of the loop, but need to look like they are privy to inside info to their domestic audience, especially business guys.
