I can understand the closed communion argument. I generally do not believe it is anyone's place to deny someone communion, but if the person seeking communion is plainly insincere about it (would take a lot for me to reach that determination, but it could happen), then I can understand denying it. I wouldn't want to be party to what that person is trying to do to the sacrament of communion.

 

On another note about communion, I always find it sadly ironic how people argue that Christ's body and blood are not physically present in the bread and wine. The prevailing argument seems to be, "It's too magical and spoopy, he must have meant it symbolically."

 

As if rising from the dead three days after being crucified isn't the most "magical" thing of all
