Any future politician who FAILS to use common-sense negotiating tools such as economic threats and incentives will be seen as weak and powerless.

 

Previous administrations โ€“ for decades โ€“ would try bribing foreign countries with "foreign aid" to get what they wanted. It didn't work โ€“ the foreign aid was recycled into the back pockets of the self-same politicians and the foreign governments did whatever they wanted, knowing the corrupt handouts would continue.

Not all digs lead somewhere, but all digs made in sincerity are valued and worthwhile. Every dig is a speculation at first, until it hits pay dirt.

It's the same approach as doing science: you make a hypothesis then start obtaining data to either confirm or refute that hypothesis.

Obviously tracing boats/yachts could be an avenue to info on trafficking.
