I think this story is worth a look. There are a number of cases like this of doctors and nurses essentially euthanizing patients or even bringing them to the brink of death in order to "save" them. I think its pretty much what the medical care model does at this point. Put people on a path to lingering death while slowly (or rapidly!) stripping the families of financial resources. (Just check out the lists of actions filed against people for medical debt)
