Contractor anon here. This is essentially true. But I think what we're seeing in this regard is decades' worth of the trades not being encouraged/validated in our schools. As a society we have acted like the kids who are naturally inclined toward the trades are somehow intellectually deficient, whereas in fact the opposite is true. Add in the smear campaign against white males and you have a a sea of men whose spirits have been broken. Sure the Mexicans are better workers. They're desperate. Sooner or later we may very well be, too.

Wife is a high school teacher. She sees this all the time. Occasionally she will refer a recent grad to me for summer work. They are never the "honors" kids.
It's a terrible state of affairs, but I do think Trump is aware. He has spoken frequently about the need for tradesmen.
