But what are these "foreign actors"? As we have reconstructed in the first and second installments of our special, it is between Rome and London that the events of the two strands that gave rise to Russiagate are intertwined and, more importantly, have fueled the narrative: the encounters between the then advisor of the Trump Campaign George Papadopoulos and the Link Campus professorJoseph Mifsud, still untraceable; and the fake anti-Trump file prepared by former British agent Christopher Steele (with the help of Russian sources, among other things) on commission from a company charged by the Clinton Campaign and the Democratic Committee to find compromising material on the adversary. And it is Australian, very close to the Clintons, Alexander Downer, the diplomat who will inform the US State Department of the interview in which Papadopoulos would have revealed to him that he learned from Mifsud that the Russians were in possession of "dirt" materialon Hillary Clinton, thousands of her emails. At least officially it would be from this revelation, says the FBI, that the first counter-intelligence investigation into the Trump Campaign is opened on 31 July 2016. While the Steele dossier - which the agency practically knew immediately to be unverified, unreliable and politically motivated - will be the key element to obtain the authorization on 21 October to monitor Carter Page and, through him, the Trump team, before and after the election. In fact, today we know that the first reports of the Steele dossier reach the FBI, through an agent of the US embassy in Rome, well before the alleged revelations of Mifsud via Downer.

But there is a third case that brings us to Rome and that in the coming days could hold interesting developments. The Eyepyramid casewhich involved the brothers Giulio and Francesca Maria Occhionero.
