Paid Death Penalty for Criminally Assaulting His Stepdaughter

Morrillton, Ark., March 8 – Charles Hammons, a white man, was hanged here Tuesday for assaulting his eleven-year-old stepdaughter. The execution was witnessed by 5000 persons. Hammons served in the United States army in the Philippines as a private. In a speech from the scaffold he declared he was not in his right mind when he committed the crime.
