Why do we assume that the DS uses open private networks, like social media, discord and such?
It is much more likely that they use reviewed multi-layered SSL tunnels into closed distributed private networks. Anything less would be sloppy and incompetent.
I'm going with lazy incompetence. There are plenty of nodes to use freely that require no documentation to use on the internet. If it is a text-only-service this could be hosted on a 56k modem-network.
