She co-founded a community outreach program known as BRIDGE which focused on mentoring inner city youth in multiple aspects, including responsible decision making, education and healthy lifestyles. She traveled to South Africa to participate in a delegation on medicine charged with gaining a better understanding of the country’s barriers to care for individuals affected with HIV/AIDS. The Association of Prevention Teaching and Research named Dr. Whisenant as a Paul Ambrose Scholar.
