People who place their hand over their heart do so because they think some gesture is required and they don't know what else to do. I always tilt my head back and in my loudest voice, sing along. ;-)

No harm putting the hand over the heart or even giving the Nazi salute (which the hand over the heart replaced after Nazi Germany co-opted the gesture.)

I'm all in favor of reclaiming both language and culture that has been co-opted.

Nobody likes me. ;-)
