Cable snapped or load moved during lift and fell on the bridge. Since there was no support structure (suspension missing) it collapsed under its own weight. Think domino effect.

Good pictures! Design of this bridge is like any other suspension bridge - but at this construction state it lacks the suspension. The whole load is distributed from the bottom part over the cross-sections into the top beam. If you knock this beam out it will collapse. The two reddish support structures are not only to transport the segment. They were placed to support the weakest parts of this segment. Why are they missing now?
