Crane dropped a piece of equipment on the bridge during rush hour.

Jose Mejia - transcript follows:

"They moved the crane - they moved the crane before all the officers got there. They moved the crane 'cause I saw it. A piece of that crane - they were tightening the cables and a piece of that equipment that was hung on that crane fell on the far right side of the bridge while you see the far left side tilted up - it couldn't hold that - what fell on the right side. So it collapsed. That's what caused that collapse. The tightening of those cables during rush hour and that piece of equipment falling from the frame down onto the bridge. That's what caused that collapse."

I stand corrected - he said this later on in the broadcast. However, earlier, he said he had his back turned and the first description he gave had no 'blue' in it. The later part he does say it was blue equipment, but at this point it sounds more like speculation to me.

The crane in that photo was moved into place after the event. There is a much larger crane (red and black) that is out of view of the photo that was likely the one involved with the incident.
