F-18 crash Sitrep
Earlier I posted a report in #834 or 835 this is an update.
It looks like this aircraft was on a land-based normal carrier approach and arrested landing using the arrester gear on the airfield.
You can see the aircraft is upside down with gear and hook down ready for landing. In this configuration he would be at low altitude and flying at minimum speed.
It would appear that he got too slow and the aircraft stalled and a wing dropped. This would cause a rapid roll with little room for manoeuvre.
Hence the report that the wings went vertical.
In this situation there would have been little time for the crew to recover control or eject.
It appears that this is just a tragic training accident.
