Could James Comey have activated a sleeper cell to target MLB legend David Ortiz (aka Big Papi) in the Dominican Republic? Was the objective to send a veiled threat to Spygate prosecuter John Durham, who famously and successfully prosecuted corrupt Boston FBI agents for aiding Mob Boss Whitety Bulger?

This premise may not be far fetched. It turns out David Ortiz had been under FBI investigation in 2005 related to an illegal sports betting ring reportedly run by a friend from the Dominican Republic. In fact, the FBI assembled an entire task force to investigate the alleged gambling, with at least one Boston agent residing part-time in the Dominican Republic during the investigation. It is important to note that Comey supervised the FBI in his role as Deputy Attorney General at that time – and the FBI Director was none other than his bestie Robert Mueller. As Depute AG, James Comey would be briefed about any investigation involving a sports figure of Ortiz's stature.

Let's review events:

1) Comey tweets what appears to be a coded message on Saturday June 8th

2) On the night of June 9th, David Ortiz is shot at point blank range in the Dominican Republic

3) Early morning on June 10th, Trump tweets "hit job"

4) Late morning on June 10th we learn about David Ortiz's shooting, and within a couple of hours, Obama tweets a "get well soon" message to Ortiz.

5) Boston remains in the news as the murky story of the shooting begins to emerge

6) Today June 16th, the Daily Mail writes about Ortiz being involved in the 2005 FBI investigation. The article says it's unlikely the real story will every be known because of the corruption in the Dominican Republic and likens the law enforcement there to a game three card monty (deception).
