Pat Shanahan out as Pentagon chief after domestic violence allegations

President Trump announced that acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has withdrawn himself from consideration to lead the Pentagon. Secretary of the Army Mark Esper will be taking his place as acting secretary. The announcement came after details were published of a 2010 violent domestic dispute with his then-wife Kimberley Jordinson that was investigated by the FBI for his background check.

Shanahan and Jordinson both claimed to the police in 2010 that they had been punched by the other. Shanahan has said he "never laid a hand on" her. His wife was arrested after the incident and she was charged with domestic violence. In a 2011 incident, his son, then aged 17, was alleged to have beaten Shanahan's ex-wife with a baseball bat.

"Acting Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan, who has done a wonderful job, has decided not to go forward with his confirmation process so that he can devote more time to his family," Trump said via Twitter. "I thank Pat for his outstanding service and will be naming Secretary of the the Army, Mark Esper, to be the new Acting Secretary of Defense. I know Mark, and have no doubt he will do a fantastic job!"

Shanahan, 56, took over as acting secretary on Jan. 1 following the departure of former Secretary of Defense James Mattis. The senate confirmed his nomination as deputy secretary of defense in July 2017 with a 92-7 vote. Prior to entering public service, Shanahan was an executive with Boeing, one of the nation's largest defense contractors, where he had a thirty year career. Esper, 54, is a West Point graduate and retired Army lieutenant colonel who spent time in the defense industry prior to taking over as secretary of the army in November 2017.

I think this is leading directly to the FBI and their games. Shanahan is now in a position to testify on their direct hit at him in this situation, more noticeable now that he is in the spot light.

Fox, CNN, C-SPAN barred from live coverage of South Carolina 2020 convention

In a first, only one TV outlet — MSNBC — will be allowed to deliver live coverage of Saturday’s South Carolina Democratic Convention where 21 presidential candidates are expected to speak, drawing heated complaints from other networks. C-SPAN, which has never been denied live coverage of a state convention in the network’s 40 years, has reluctantly pulled out of the convention and other weekend events sponsored by the party. CNN has filed a complaint. Fox will also be barred from providing live coverage to its viewers. The decision by the South Carolina Democratic Party was a surprise to the outlets and came just yesterday, long after all three had begun to ready for live coverage of the nine-hour event, one of the biggest on the Democratic presidential calendar so far. In an email to the media, the party announced that MSNBC had the exclusive rights to cover the event live. It did not explain why.

“IMPORTANT: MSNBC has exclusive rights to broadcast the 2019 South Carolina Democratic Convention. Any footage of the convention taken by other outlets may not be aired live, and is EMBARGOED FOR THREE HOURS after the close of the convention. This embargo includes any live-streaming from social media platforms,” said the note from the party press office. Unlike network-sponsored debates, conventions have always been considered “open press,” allowing any outlet to broadcast live.

The blackout shocked C-SPAN Political Director Steve Scully. “Never has what is an open event given exclusive rights to a single network,” he told Secrets. Scully, whose network gave gavel-to-gavel coverage of a similar Democratic candidate beauty contest in Iowa two weeks ago, said that the party was “shooting itself in the foot” by barring live coverage from other outlets. And he said that by denying live coverage to C-SPAN, the party is losing a chance at having all of its officials covered. He predicted that MSNBC will break away from non-stop coverage for any breaking news and interviews.

“Maybe they think that they are going to get better coverage. But they are losing out on Fox, C-SPAN and CNN who all intended to carry parts of the speeches live,” he said, adding, “Live is a key factor. We could put it on Sunday, but by that point, who cares?” What’s more, he said that C-SPAN won’t be quick to cover future South Carolina Democratic Party events. “We will not be coving, absolutely not, and I also told them in no uncertain terms you better think long and hard before you reach out to us to cover something else. We’ll deal with 49 other state Democratic Parties. It’s ridiculous. It’s an open event,” said Scully. “We’re not happy.”

In its email, the party said it is turning over the event to MSNBC. It said, “After each candidate speaks, they will be interviewed by MSNBC on their stage in the rear of the hall. After this, the candidate may choose to go to the designated press avail area. There will be no scrums in the Convention Hall, or outside of the area designated by SCDP staff inside the Convention Center. Footage taken outside the convention hall is not under embargo. Members of the press are free to speak to convention attendees throughout the convention hall, so long as they are not disrupting normal business or interfering with the counting of delegate votes. Please do not enter the delegate seating area near the front of the conventional hall.”

Billionaire Trump supporter who attended Biden fundraiser says he rejected 2020 candidate's request for help

A billionaire who supported President Trump said Joe Biden asked him for fundraising help at a Monday donor event in New York. John Catsimatidis said he declined the request to help Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign and plans on sticking with Trump. Catsimatidis, who owns the New York supermarket chain Gristedes and ran for mayor in 2013, told CNBC he was an invited guest to the fundraiser but did not donate to Biden’s campaign to attend the event, which was held at the home of investment manager Jim Chanos. Donors contributed $2,800 to gain entrance to the fundraiser.

“I think Joe Biden is the most common sense nominee of the 23 people running in the Democratic Party,” he said. “Monetarily, I did not commit to helping him but I will help him brotherly, on my radio show and with all my media contacts.” Catsimatidis said the two spoke for about 10 minutes and when Biden asked for help, “I just smiled.” Catsimatidis donated to both Trump and Hillary Clinton in 2016. The businessman said in a tweet Tuesday that he and his family are supporting Trump "100%" and that "We are fighting for the soul of America!”

Schumer: We should wait 'months down the road' to make a decision on impeachment

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said during a Tuesday press conference that Democrats should wait months before deciding whether to impeach President Trump. “We don’t know all of it yet and the more new facts come out the better informed decision the American people and then the Congress can make on this issue,” Schumer said at the press conference. "So I think the strategy of getting as much of the facts out and then months down the road making a decision on impeachment … is the right strategy.”

Schumer's stance on impeachment appears aligned with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She has refused to back impeachment while attempting to control the party, but the number of Democrats coming out in favor of removing President Trump from office is increasing. According to the Hill's impeachment whip count, 62 House Democrats — over a quarter of the caucus — have come out in favor of either impeaching President Trump or starting an investigation into the matter. Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter is the most recent House Democrat to back impeachment, in a video posted Monday night to Twitter.

Interesting…Do you have first hand knowledge of the circumstances? Are you intimately involved in family circle? Do you live in a glass house? Commenting without paying attention to all of the facts at hand is nothing more than judgemental which is not for you to decide.
