VIRGINIA URANIUM, INC., ET AL. v. WARREN ET AL.

No. 16–1275. Argued November 5, 2018—Decided June 17, 2019

Virginia state law prohibits uranium mining. Federal law (Atomic Energy Commission) however, regulates this industry. The mining company claimed that under the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, the federal govt. preempts state uranium mining laws like Virginia’s and ensconces the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) as the lone regulator in the field.

The Court REJECTED this claim in holding that Congress has never stripped States of their traditional power to regulate mining on private lands within their borders.

VIRGINIA HOUSE OF DELEGATES ET AL. v. BETHUNE-HILL ET AL.

No. 18–281. Argued March 18, 2019—Decided June 17, 2019

OK in this case the Virginia legislature passed a new voting district law. Some Democrats lost their seats and sued claiming racial bias in the drawing of the Districts. The VA House (Legislature) also joined in the suit. The corrupt lower court give them a win and the GOP House appealed. SCOTUS threw out the appeal, declaring that "The House lacks standing, either to represent the State’s interests or in its own right."

So we lost this case but won the war - cuz guess who want to sue POTUS over his policies (not the subpoena shit which is a different circus). Yup - the Demrat HOUSE. Now they CAN'T.

No. 17–646. Argued December 6, 2018—Decided June 17, 2019

This case challenged the long standing "double jeopardy exception" which allows prosecution for a crime under BOTH State and Federal law. Its really a defense lawyers nightmare and IMO questionable in some respect (double prosecutions/two bites at the same apple). However SCOTUS just UPHELD and reaffirmed that as the law of the land - a huge victory for STATES RIGHTS.

The key language - "…two offenses “are not the ‘same offence’ ” for double jeopardy purposes if “prosecuted by different sovereigns…”

YUP - each STATE is sovereign as well as the federal govt.
