The director of the US Central Intelligence Agency John Brennan (photo C)  thanked former Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) director George Maior (photo L) for the cooperation between the two agencies.

According to a release sent by Maior to Agerpres on Tuesday, Brennan telephoned him to voice the appreciation for his contribution to the consolidation of the partnership with the United States in the strategic field of information, to the interest of the national security of both countries, of the region and of the world.

The former head of the SRI thanked the director of the CIA for his involvement in the evolution of operative relations between the agencies and assured him, based on talks with President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Victor Ponta and the new SRI director Eduard Hellvig, that this partnership will continue at the same level of information quality and of operations, as a priority for Romania’s security policy.

According to the document, Maior also underlined the importance of the cooperation between Romania and the United States, especially in the ‘extremely complex and tensed’ current international and regional strategic context.

The State Department has identified 30 instances of classified-intel mishandling involving 15 individuals connected to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s unauthorized use of a private, unsecured email server.

The mishandling of classified information was revealed in a letterfrom Mary Elizabeth Taylor, the assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs at the State Department, to Senator Chuck Grassley. Grassley, a Republican, is leading Congressional oversight of the security review.

The State Department did not identify the culpable individuals pursuant to longstanding policy, nor did it reveal if any of the individuals still work at the State Department.

“The Department has assessed culpability to 15 individuals, some of whom were culpable in multiple security incidents. DS has issued 23 violations and 7 infractions incidents under 12 FAM 550,” Taylor noted. “This number will likely change as the review progresses.”
