READ THE DOCUMENTS

The Dummy Company at the Heart of Deutsche Bank Money Laundering Probe

Leaked records involving a company at the center of a Deutsche Bank money laundering probe expose a global cadre of money makers.

The records concerning former Deutsche Bank subsidiary Regula Ltd. shine a light, too, on how one of the world’s largest banks helped shield the identities and machinations of the world’s rich and powerful.

German police and tax inspectors have raided the homes and offices of German citizens, bankers, accountants and tax advisers as part of a criminal investigation. Authorities allege that Regula helped more than 900 wealthy Germans evade taxes and hide money from government coffers.

This month’s raids come on the back of a November 2018 search of Deutsche Bank’s headquarters in Frankfurt.

Regula is what is known as a “nominee” or “dummy” company.

MONEY LAUNDERING

Senators propose radical overhaul of US anti-money laundering regime

Authorities in the United States have more information about library card holders than the owners of registered companies, according to a bipartisan group of U.S. senators behind a bill that would overhaul the country’s dated anti-money-laundering laws.

The senators, members of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, are seeking to enact The Illicit Cash Act, which would empower regulators to force shell companies to disclose their true ownership for the first time.

The draft bill was introduced on June 10. Key proponent, Senator Doug Jones, a Democrat from Alabama, said that as a former U.S. Attorney he was “all too familiar with criminals hiding behind shell corporations to enable their illegal behavior.”

“Our anti-money laundering laws have not kept pace with the increasingly sophisticated means by which criminals and terrorist organizations use our financial system to move their money around the world,” he said in a joint press release.

Trump Said Sponsors Will Pay U.S. Back for Welfare Benefits Given to Immigrants. It’s About To Happen.

On May 28, President Trump published a “Presidential Memorandum” to help enforce a policy requiring financial sponsors of immigrants to reimburse the government for benefits received by the aliens.

On Friday, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service reminded immigrants and their sponsors, Trump wasn’t joking.

“If the sponsored immigrant receives any federal means-tested public benefits, the sponsor will be expected to reimburse the benefits-granting agency for every dollar of benefits received by the immigrant,” USCIS tweeted.

Trump Withholding Hundreds of Millions in Aid to Central America as Immigration Crisis Rages On

President Donald Trump is officially withholding hundreds of millions in U.S. aid to three Central American countries as punishment for being the majority of the current illegal immigration crisis.

The White House informed Congress on Monday it is permanently diverting $370 million in aid from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala, according to Reuters.

That money was previously approved by Congress for fiscal year 2018, but had not yet been used.

Trump is not stopping there.

$180 million approved in 2017’s fiscal year was not spent, so Trump’s administration suspended that money.

BREAKING: Big Pharma blood pressure drugs found laced with cancer-causing chemical; but FDA says don’t stop taking them

For years, we’ve warned that Big Pharma’s business model is a “repeat business” racket that profits from sickness and disease. We also know that cancer is a multi-billion-dollar industry that generates huge profits from the repeat business of cancer “therapies” such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Now comes news that a popular blood pressure drug sold by Novartis has been found to be laced with a cancer-causing chemical known as “dimethylformamide.”

“A pharmacy warned the Food and Drug Administration that it found a chemical believed to cause cancer in a widely used blood pressure medication, according to a filing from the federal agency,” reports CNBC.

The drugs are part of a popular class of prescription medications the FDA has been quietly recalling after finding them to be laced with cancer-causing chemicals. Those drugs reportedly include valsartan, losartan and irbesartan.

Even more astonishingly, this chemical contamination was discovered by Valisure, an online pharmacy that operates across America. Valisure is apparently running contamination tests on the various medications it sells, and it found that valsartan, the blood pressure medication manufactured by Novartis, contains DMF (dimethylformamide), a chemical known to cause cancer.

A pharmacy that tests the products for contaminants before retailing them… shouldn’t the FDA be doing this?

Probed, Sacked And Ignored: How Countries Reacted To West Africa Leaks

The region’s biggest collaboration spurred some nations to act, while others remained silent.

Twelve months after the publication of West Africa’s largest journalism collaboration, authorities in the region continue to probe some leads – and ignore others.

West Africa Leaks uncovered offshore companies and bank accounts of potentates from the region, which loses more revenue through tax avoidance, evasion and financial crime than any other in Africa.

Working with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and the Norbert Zongo Cell for Investigative Journalism (Cenozo), reporters from 11 countries spent months poring over leaked financial records, contracts and emails.

Their discoveries included the Dubai company of a candidate for the presidency in Mali (he lost), the tax avoidance machinations of a Canadian multinational in Senegal and the bank account of a member of Togo’s autocratic ruling elite.

The investigation was the first of its kind in West Africa, where journalists are underpaid and can face the threat of imprisonment and even death for their work.

An informed public opinion will demand change, eventually. – Samuel De Jaegere

Iran’s regime feeling desolate, helpless in the face of numerous crises

Iran, June 19, 2019 - While, according to Iranian regime officials, the Islamic Republic has no option but to align itself with ordinary Iranians in the face of foreign pressure, sheer incompetency and accumulated social problems have rendered the situation more explosive than ever before.

Nahid Tajeddin, a member of the regime’s Majlis (parliament) from the camp close to mullahs’ President Hassan Rouhani, voiced a concerned view on Monday.

“I was thinking about what I should say for the youth from behind this tribune? The same youth, who despite being 40 percent of the Iranian population, 25.3 percent of them have been unemployed in the [Persian] year 2017-2018, according to the data from the center for statistics,” she said.

“I was thinking about what I should say for the women? The very same women who are 50 percent of this society but their share of higher management positions in the country has yet to reach the 30 percent mark set by the president’s office,” she added.

“I was thinking about what I should say from behind this tribune for the people who have not been mentioned? What pain should we talk about that hasn’t been already talked about and what is the remedy for all these pain,” Tajeddin further said, concluding her speech by referring to the plight of Iranian workers whose monthly provide only a portion of today’s living costs. Tajeddin warned about factional infightings among the political elite, but didn’t present any solution for the dilemmas the mullahs’ regime.

In the same Majlis session, Mahmoud Bahmani, former Central Bank governor and a current Majlis member added to the regime’s growing list of concerns.

“Right now, the middle class and poor people of the society are becoming weaker every day and profiteers, brokers and underground economic activists who see themselves beyond the law have become richer and bolder,” he said.

“Nonetheless, the country’s resources and reserves are fourth in terms of oil and second in terms of gas, and first in general terms and we have [just] one percent of the world population and seven percent of the world’s natural resources,” Bahmani added

Chinese government censors press, all social media, over Hong Kong protests, just like U.S. tech giants censor conservatives, Christians and Trump supporters

Something is taking place in an enclave of China that does not happen very often: Protests against the government that have spilled out into the streets.

In the semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong, millions of residents are demonstrating against a controversial extradition bill, which has been temporarily suspended by the city administrator, even as the Chinese regime cracked down on all press outlets and social media.

As reported by The Epoch Times, with the Internet and media clampdown, China’s state-run press outlets are free to spin the demonstrations as something else — in this case, they are being portrayed as anti-U.S. demonstrations to the Chinese people.

But following “heavy criticism from netizens, China Daily, an English-language state-run media directed at international audiences, was forced to delete its related Facebook posts,” The Epoch Times noted further.

About one-quarter of the city’s people, most of them adorned in black clothing, inundated city streets June 16 to protest the bill, making it the largest demonstration in Hong Kong history. In particular:

Hongkongers demanded that the city government withdraw the extradition bill, which would allow mainland China to seek extradition of suspects. The bill has drawn broad opposition within Hong Kong society, with many fearing that given China’s disregard for the rule of law, the proposal could allow the Chinese regime to charge and extradite people with impunity.

The protests quickly became the biggest news story internationally, given that such demonstrations in China are rare and especially protests this large.

Alien hunters in most extensive search of stars turn up nothing

Breakthrough Listen project found no evidence of alien civilisations on 1,327 stars

The close encounter will have to wait. Astronomers have come up empty-handed after scanning the heavens for signs of intelligent life in the most extensive search ever performed.

Researchers used ground-based telescopes to eavesdrop on 1,327 stars within 160 light years of Earth. During three years of observations they found no evidence of signals that could plausibly come from an alien civilisation.

The only signals picked up by the Green Bank telescope in West Virginia and the Parkes telescope in Australia had more Earthly origins, the scientists found, with mobile phones and other terrestrial technology providing plenty of noise, and more transient signals coming from overflying satellites.

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping confirm G20 meeting and restarting of US-China trade war talks

Trump tweets that he and Xi will meet at the G20 summit, while Xi is quoted as saying he will meet Trump to ‘exchange opinions’ on Sino-US relations

Measured remarks from Beijing suggest efforts to protect Xi “from being seen as too eager to reach a truce”, says a former US trade official

US President Donald Trump confirmed on Twitter on Tuesday that he and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, would meet next week at the G20 summit in Japan, adding that trade talks with China would resume before the meeting.

The Chinese president, meanwhile, told Trump he was “willing” to meet and agreed that the two sides should keep their communications open, according to Chinese state media reports.

The meeting’s confirmation and the restarting of talks were the first positive developments since trade talks between the two countries collapsed in early May, leaving Trump threatening to slap tariffs on all Chinese imports.
