Communism isn't a driving force in italy. Mistake such as this one happens when you only talk to self defined 'intellectuals'.
Guess that's nothing new.
There is an openly communist party and it's not really frowned upon for historical reasons, unlike (really) far right parties. Anyway doesn't get many votes. The rest leaning on that side hides behind democrats probably not even knowing what they're wishing for.
