Trump gets 1 hour, prime time slot in July 4 celebration

President Trump is getting an hour-long prime time slot to speak during Washington’s famous Independence Day celebration. The Interior Department said that Trump will be featured from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., an hour called “Salute to America.” During that hour, Trump will address the crowd on the National Mall and witness “military demonstrations and flyovers.”

Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said that several areas typically closed will be opened for the event. “For the first time in many years, the World War II Memorial and areas around the Reflecting Pool will be open for the public to enjoy a stunning fireworks display and an address by our Commander-in-Chief. We are excited to open these new areas so that more visitors may experience this year’s Independence Day celebration in our nation’s capital,” he said. Trump called on Americans to come to the July 4th event when he announced his reelection bid in Orlando, Fla., Tuesday night.

“On July 4th, in Washington, D.C., come on down, we're going have a big day. Bring your flags, bring those flags,” he said to supporters in the crowd holding U.S. flags. “Bring those American flags, July 4th, we're going to have hundreds of thousands of people, we're going to celebrate America. Sounds good, right? July 4th, celebrate America.” Trump's participation has been criticized in the media and by Democrats who fear it will turn the national holiday event into a Trump reelection rally. But administration officials have dismissed the complaints, asking who more than the president should speak on the anniversary of America's independence.

Below is the schedule for the day:

11:45 a.m.-2 p.m. National Independence Day Parade – Constitution Avenue NW from 7th Street to 17th Street NW. Marching bands, fife and drum corps, floats, military units, giant balloons, equestrian, drill teams and more celebrate Independence Day in this patriotic, flag-waving, red, white and blue celebration of America's birthday!

6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Salute to America – Lincoln Memorial. President Trump leads a celebration of America’s military with music, military demonstrations and flyovers. Gates open at 3:30 p.m.

8 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. A Capitol Fourth Concert – West Lawn the U.S. Capitol. Co-sponsored by the National Park Service and the National Symphony Orchestra, A Capital Fourth honors our nation’s 243rd birthday with an all-star salute of the best in American entertainment. Gates open at 3 p.m.

9:07 p.m. – 9:27 p.m. Fireworks Display. Independence Day culminates with a spectacular fireworks display over the National Mall. The fireworks will be launched from West Potomac Park and behind the Lincoln Memorial. They will be visible from locations throughout D.C. and Northern Virginia.

I have a suspicion Doug Band …would have flipped, he didn't appear to want to take the fall on his own regarding the use of the foundation as a personal piggy bank of Clinton's where it concerned Chelsea's wedding, (as noted in the podesta emails). In addition there has been little to no news about him. Lastly his trips with Bill on Lolita Express & the Island.

Ex-FBI agent in Navy SEAL governor case charged with perjury and evidence tampering

An former FBI agent hired to investigate Eric Greitens, a Navy SEAL veteran who was Missouri governor, has been indicted on perjury charges. William Tisaby was charged with six counts of perjury and one count of tampering with physical evidence in the indictment, which was unsealed Monday. He had been under investigation by a special counsel charged with looking into allegations that he lied during a 2008 hearing.

Tisaby, 66, was hired by St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner days after Greitens, a 45-year-old Republican, admitted to having an affair with a hairdresser in 2018. He was tasked with looking into allegations that Greitens took a photo of a partially nude woman in 2015 and was using it as blackmail, threatening to release the picture unless she kept quiet about the affair. The indictment says that Tisaby lied under oath about “matters which could substantially affect, or did substantially affect, the course or outcome of the Greitens case.” He was accused of tampering with evidence for allegedly keeping documents in the case from Greitens' defense attorneys.

In May last year, prosecutors dropped a felony invasion-of-privacy charge against Greitens, a former Rhodes scholar. Despite that, Greitens ended up resigning last June. Greitens’ former lawyer Scott Rosenblum tore into prosecutors, accusing them of misconduct in last year’s highly publicized case. “Eric Greitens should still be governor,” Rosenblum said. “This was a misguided prosecution from the very beginning. It’s one of the worst cases of prosecutorial misconduct that I have seen in my 36 years of practicing criminal defense law.” Gardner’s office remains under investigation by the special counsel.

Senate panel advances emergency border funding

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved a bipartisan emergency funding bill requested by President Trump to deal with the massive immigration surge along the southern border. Democrats and Republicans voted in favor of a $4.59 billion measure, setting up a Senate floor vote next week. The House may consider the Senate bill, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said.

The accord in the Senate comes after weeks of partisan fighting over how to address the crisis along the border, where more than 100,000 illegal immigrants have been apprehended each of the past several months and 675,000 have been caught at the border this fiscal year. “Our personnel on the ground are doing everything they can to secure the border and care for these vulnerable populations,” Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby, R-Ala., said Wednesday. “But their determination has outstripped their resources.”

The measure excludes any funding for a border wall or barriers, but provides $145 million for the Defense Department, which has been deploying troops to the border. It includes $2.9 million for the Health and Human Services Department, which is responsible for caring for the thousands of unaccompanied children picked up along the border every month, and $1.3 billion for the Homeland Security Department to provide food, shelter and medical care for adult illegal immigrants. Another $220 million in the measure is directed to the Justice Department “to help process immigration cases and detain dangerous individuals,” according to the Senate panel.

The measure excludes “poison pills,” Shelby said, including demands from Democrats that the bill require educational, recreational and legal resources be provided for illegal immigrants. Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, who is the top Democrat on the panel, called the measure “a good faith compromise,” that will address the humanitarian needs on the border. Democrats have been staunchly opposed to providing money for more detention beds or for anything that would make it easier for the U.S. government to detain illegal immigrants. Leahy said the measure provides $20 million for “alternatives to detention” and $30 million for nonprofit organizations who shelter illegal immigrants released from detention. “The package we are considering today is primarily a humanitarian assistance package,” Leahy said.
