Mauldin Police sex scandal: Council members 'shocked,' disappointed they weren't informed

The majority of Mauldin's City Council members said this week they are disappointed that they were not informed about an investigation into whether some employees in the police and 911 communications departments were involved in sexual activities at work until six months after a tip about the issue surfaced and three months after an internal review was completed.
“It’s frustrating to not know about it until the end," Councilman Larry Goodson said Tuesday. “We didn’t know anything about it; we had no clue."
City Administrator Brandon Madden discussed the sex scandal and fallout with the council for the first time on June 3 during a closed meeting, according to interviews this week that The Greenville News conducted with all six members and the mayor. Goodson described the meeting as a roomful of shocked faces.
Councilwoman Carol King echoed Goodson's take: "There were some mouths that dropped open," she said.
