Don't know what histshill put up that lie, but in 1776, the Turtle failed miserably to sink the British flagship, Eagle. The mine, intended to destroy the Eagle, had to be attached to the hull and the drill failed to penetrate the Iron cladding. And the mine ended up exploding harmlessly.
