Google Launches Browser Extension to Let Users Flag ‘Deceptive’ Sites

Google has launched a Chrome browser extension allows users to report suspicious sites to the firm to include in its “Safe Browsing” index.

TechCrunch reports that Google recently launched a new extension for its Chrome web browser which allows users to flag suspicious sites to be included in the company’s “Safe Browsing” index. This index is used by Chrome and a number of third-party web browsers. Google is also launching a new warning in its web browsers which alerts users when they may be attempting to access a site that could be potentially dangerous.

The Safe Browsing index usually crawls the internet independently to track down websites that pose a threat to users, but now users can flag sites that the index has yet to detect. The extension allows users to include screenshots of the offending website, the chain of referrers that led users to the site and the DOM content of the user’s web browser.

Mark Esper is acting defense secretary. Will Trump make it permanent?

The Mark Esper era will begin at the Pentagon on Monday.

Following the sudden resignation announcement of acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan on Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced he would appoint Esper, the current Army Secretary, to replace him in the top civilian Defense Department role.

Chief Pentagon Spokesperson Jonathan Hoffman confirmed that transfer will take place at midnight on June 23. Both defense leaders will spend the next few days working out operational issues to ensure “an orderly transition that ensures our men and women in uniform have the leadership and resources they need to keep our nation safe.”

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., on Tuesday offered strong support for Esper to take over the top Pentagon job.

“I’ve been in the field with him to see how he does with troops, and he’s exceptionally good,” Inhofe said. “The president was very positive that he’s going to be acting. He thinks highly of him and he knows I do too.”
