The newly created Mexican National Guard has been deployed to the Mexico-Guatemala border under mounting pressure from Donald Trump to curve the flow of migrants entering the US - as many immigrants deported from the United States report they are being forced to sleep on the street as Mexico's shelters reach breaking point.

One such shelter, the Jesus Good Shepherd in the southern Mexican border town of Tapachula near the Mexico-Guatemala international borderline, has a limited capacity of 250 people.

But as the United States deports and turns away more illegal immigrants as part of Trump's crackdown on illegal migration, and the Central American crisis forces more and more people to flee the violence in their home countries, that shelter alone has had to raise its limit to 700.

It's becoming an increasingly common pattern across Mexico as the country becomes overwhelmed by migrants.

The southern Mexican border has been the main point of entry for migrants who escape El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. In recent months it has also dealt with a surge of migrants from Cuba, Haiti and even Africa.
