Ten people were shot outside the troubled Deja Vu nightclub on Hamilton Street in Allentown early Thursday morning in what officials said was likely a case of gang violence involving as many as three shooters.

It is one of the worst mass shootings in Lehigh Valley history. All the victims are expected to survived but many remain in the hospital, Allentown police Capt. Bill Lake said.

Police were called to the 300 block of Hamilton Street at 1:56 a.m. to a report of a shooting and found multiple victims outside of the nightclub, which has been the scene of other violence in the recent past.

Most or all of the victims had just left the club or were standing on the sidewalk outside when the shots rang out, Lake said.

In a statement, Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin said the shooting did not appear to be random: โ€œIt appears that at least one individual was a target.โ€

โ€œThis was not the work of one armed suspect, but it appears there were several shooters, likely three in number,โ€ he added.

While no one was yet in custody, โ€œit does not appear that the community at large is at risk from the perpetrators involved here."

Martin said some witnesses and victims are being uncooperative with investigators.

โ€œIt is more likely than not that the outcome of the investigation will reveal a connection to gang violence,โ€ he said.
