Probably NOT correct, but I need to point out another (far-fetched) possibility. Kansas = Dorothy; Merkel's middle name is "Dorothea." This would be her nominal "Call name" (Rufname) in Germany. Merkel is Dorothy.
Trust Merkel? Quite a stretch for me to believe this, but there it is…
