Report: Google’s Nest Security Cameras Allowed Previous Owners to Spy on New Users

The Silicon Valley Masters of the Universe at Google are reportedly investigating an issue with the company’s Nest security cameras which allows previous owners of the cameras to spy on new users. According to a report from Wirecutter, tech giant Google is investigating an issue with its Nest security cameras, in which the previous owners of used cameras are able to spy on new owners. The report claims that those who have sold their Nest Cam Indoor devices are still able to access images stored on the device even after a factory reset.

The issue seems to pertain specifically to Nest Cam devices which have been synced with a “Wink Hub,” a product that connects a number of smart home products together for easy user management. Previous owners of Nest Cam devices are reportedly able to view images on the device through the Wink app. A Google spokesperson commented on the issue, telling Business Insider: “We were recently made aware of an issue affecting some Nest cameras that are connected to a third party partner via Works With Nest. We’re actively investigating it and working on a fix.”

The report from Wirecutter states that the content accessible by previous owners includes “still images snapped every several seconds” rather than a continuous live video stream. Nest has previously dealt with security issues, in February of 2019 the company came under fire after it was discovered that the Nest Secure Alarm system included a microphone which owners were previously unaware of. The company stated at the time that the microphone was “never intended to be a secret and should have been listed in the tech specs.”

Christchurch attack: New Zealand launches gun buy-back scheme

New Zealand has launched a gun buy-back scheme in the wake of the deadly Christchurch mosque shootings. More than $208m New Zealand dollars (£108m, $136m), have been set aside to compensate owners of semi-automatic weapons which were banned following the attacks. The ban was agreed by parliament in April, weeks after the shootings. In March, a gunman killed 51 people at a mosque and Islamic centre during Friday prayers.

How will the buy-back work? The scheme, which only applies to licensed guns, will last six months meaning people will have until 20 December to hand in their weapons. "The buy-back has one objective - to remove the most dangerous weapons from circulation," Minister of Police Stuart Nash said. "Police have detailed plans in place for the next step, which is the collection of firearms from the community. It will be a huge logistical exercise and is expected to get under way in mid-July."

The new gun laws agreed in April ban military-style semi-automatic weapons and parts that can be used to assemble prohibited firearms. The money set aside will compensate owners up to 95% of the original price of their weapons. Police estimate that around 14,300 military style semi-automatic weapons would be covered by the new legislation. So far, almost 700 weapons have already been handed in before the buy-back scheme was launched and around 5,000 have been registered by owners for the police to collect.

Judicial Watch: New Strzok-Page Emails Reveal FBI Efforts to Muddle Comey Testimony on Clinton Emails; FBI-Media Collusion

(Washington, DC) – Judicial Watch announced today it received 345 pages of records from the Department of Justice that show FBI top officials scrambling to write a letter to Congress to supplement then-Director James Comey’s Senate testimony in an apparent attempt to muddle his message.

In an email thread starting at 6:34 a.m. on May 9, 2017, with the subject line “Comey’s Testimony on Huma Abedin Forwarding Emails Was Inaccurate – ProPublica” nearly a dozen top FBI officials scrambled to draft a letter to Congress about Comey’s May 3 Senate testimony.

This email thread was concerned with a May 8, 2017, ProPublica report stating that, “Comey’s most surprising revelation was that Huma Abedin — [Anthony] Weiner’s wife and a top Clinton deputy — had made ’a regular practice’ of forwarding ‘hundreds and thousands’ of Clinton messages to her husband, ‘some of which contain classified information.’ Comey testified that Abedin had done this so that the disgraced former congressman could print them out for her boss.… FBI officials have privately acknowledged that Comey misstated what Abedin did and what the FBI investigators found.” After a flurry of emails, by 8:56 a.m. Comey’s chief of staff, Jim Rybicki, sent the group a draft letter for Congress, saying, “Below is a draft that has been reviewed by the Director. Please let me know your thoughts.” At 2:02PM, Asst. Director for Congressional Affairs, Greg Brower, asked his colleagues to review the latest iteration of the draft letter to the Senate.

Kamala Harris Accidentally Admits Why Dems Want People Here Illegally, Votes

California Senator and 2020 hopeful Kamala Harris just accidentally admitted why Democrats are so hot on keeping and letting illegal immigrants in our country. They hope that these illegal immigrants will someday turn into Democrat party voters.

In response to Trumps call to deport millions Harris tweeted “Let’s call this what it is: an attempt to remake the demographics of our country by cracking down on immigrants. That this threat is coming from the President of the United States is deeply reprehensible and an affront to our values. We will fight this.”

So lets see if we understand this correctly. Kamala Harris does not want the President to remove millions of illegal immigrants, who have already received final deportation orders, but remain in the country, because it might change the demographics of our country. Translated into English what that really mean is don’t remove those who have no right to be here because it might change our country, meaning we need these people to help us get and retain power, permanently. Democrats can’t get the votes they want with the current electorate so their strategy is to change the electorate, or demographics of our country, as Harris puts it.

So now we all know the real reason Democrats want so many illegals here, to change the electorate so they can get and retain power forever.

Hundreds of Protesters Arrested in India After Water Runs Dry

Drought and a deadly heat wave caused reservoirs to dry up in the country’s sixth-largest city.

More than 550 people have been arrested in mass protests in India as some 11 million people in the country's sixth-largest city ran out of clean drinking water. The four reservoirs that supply Chennai in southern India dried up amid a severe drought, reportedly forcing the city's water authority to slash its water output by 40%. Hotels and restaurants were shuttered, some offices instructed workers to remain home to help conserve water, and the city's subway system was forced to shut off air conditioning, despite a deadly heat wave that's caused nearly 200 deaths across southern and eastern India, with temperatures in some regions soaring past 122 degrees.

As water resources ran dry, some residents in the region reportedly began turning to dirty wells and other sources. Authorities were trucking in tankers and bottles of water, but demand led to hundreds of thousands of people to wait in line. Anger and impatience over the situation reportedly erupted in sporadic violence. One man was arrested last week for allegedly stabbing a neighbor in a fight over water. Elsewhere in southern India, water scarcity fueled protests that led to the mass arrests Wednesday.

The crisis comes as climate scientists have issued increasingly dire warnings about global warming and its impact on water supplies around the world, but especially in Southeast Asia. Satellite images have revealed that glaciers and snowpack in the Himalayas are melting at a rapid rate, imperiling water supplies for about a quarter of the world's population. Rainfall in Chennai on Thursday provided a mild reprieve for the city's water crisis. The precipitation exceeded all the rainfall from the last six months, underscoring the infrequency of recent rainstorms and the severity of the region's weekslong water crisis.
