The prices I pay for having my own home are a mortgage and more DYI repairs than I can count.
The prices I paid for parenthood was love, loss of sleep, pee/poop/vomit cleanups, many tears, confusion, and the payoff was a child who chose to become estranged from me. I still love that child and hope we can speak again someday. Child made many mistakes while young then lied to save face, and lost his way in the inevitable reckoning. That reckoning wasn't even something I could help him with. I don't know what to do.
I have been with old people when they died.
I have straightened out more fucked up situations than I can remember anymore.
I'm tired and my physical health is starting to tank, and it's just from age.
Would I change any of it? Absolutely not.
It is LIFE, bare, honest, beautiful, ugly, inspiring, depressing, exhilarating, painful LIFE.
It shouldn't be feared or reviled.
Adulthood should be approached gung-ho and embraced.

Your mention of India reminded me of one of Charles Ortel's podcasts, when he was discussing the massive fraud swirling around their friends in India with pharmaceutical companies, the manufacturing and distribution coming from those, the "test" and distribution of those drugs in Africa and other third-world areas, and the turning of the Clintons' blind eyes to them.
