Lake and Ng videotaped themselves torturing, raping, and murdering their victims. I suspect they, as some kind of CIA/intelligence operation, were also selling these videos.
Numerous oddities in that case. Lake killed himself after initially arrested by taking cyanide pills, and Ng's cellmate in Canada who was going to be a witness against him, died in a car crash before he could testify.
