It is interesting that Jesus often seems to say "my father in Heaven" … Doesn't the Lord dwell in Zion?

Just a curious thing I have noted, because of how the concept of gods work in the East. What many of us think of as the powers/nature of God is the Tao. It is all and beyond direct understanding. There are beings of power - often called local, or land gods, who rule over areas or become affiliated with a certain tribe/village/people.

To me, this has always implied that what Jesus was making reference to was always something larger than the lord of the old testament. But… Discussing this is difficult as the church doctrine has strictly labeled anything other than itself as the work of the devil. If not [dogma] then satan.

Coming from a Christian upbringing, myself - it is very difficult to remove that aspect - the idea that questions and knowledge are the arts of satan. Because it is true that lies by omission are very common, and many look to deceive by pretending to be sources of knowledge while deliberately controlling what knowledge they do and don't receive.

In this manner - I have come to understand that complete knowledge - or the honest pursuit of it - is divine. The act of trying to restrict information on the basis of creating or preserving an advantage is evil (obviously, you don't turn a child loose with industrial equipment and all the knowledge of the universe at once).

This is not correct. The book of Enoch was a description of the movement of the stars in the sky as well as their meanings and interpretations.

Granted, the concept of astrology has varied considerably over the ages, and its purpose has largely been supplanted by calendars and math.

Keep in mind that the birth of Jesus was a major astrological symbol in and of itself. The wise men who followed the star arrived when Jesus was able to talk. Thus - it was not a literal star as is often portrayed. It was an astrological symbol which was located by either the Persians or the Chinese/Indians - depending upon exactly how you flex and read the accounts.

Unless you want to argue that King Harod couldn't figure out that the "super king" he was afraid of was beneath a mystical star floating over…. Wait - was Jesus in that stable for 8 years?

You see the problem with the dogmatic interpretation of things?

Well, yes, I will be bringing the status you describe - the return of the Tree of Life.

But, you're simply regurgitating a bunch of nonsense drilled into you to make you a slave, so, the death of the devil will be kind of shocking as he is celebrated as a god.

To be fair, I can be a bit of a cynnical ass and will from time to time troll the beast's worshippers. Which I should probably not do - but… What can I say… I'm "evil" and "a demon" - so… May as well have some fun with it.

You'll be no worse for the wear after we are done. Relax and enjoy the show.

It was standard even in the King James, if memory serves correctly. Some editions keep it today, some editions never held it.

The fact that there are multiple versions of the bible varying beyond simple translation/prose and including or excluding different books is challenging enough for most people to accept.

The Church tried very hard to instill the same belief system as Islam upon the Christian faith - that the Bible is an absolute rendition of God's literal word. Unfortunately for them - this was not really possible as the validity of Jesus required the prophets of the old testament which required going all the way back to Genesis. Islam bypassed all of this by just having the prophet say: "they are all liars and I have the real word."

Which…. Despite its simplicity has proven rather effective by comparison.

But the scholars of Christian scripture were also not the Pharisee and knew what would be done with the scripture, as well.

"Clever as serpents." Was the directive, and so serpents "we" became.
