They shot down the drone because they mistook the signature.
The BUFF is unmistakable and distinct from the drones that attacked the Japanese ships…. Which is what the Iranians thought they were shooting, I imagine.

Just took a little convincing. Wouldn't be the first time the resistance to the Beast was honey trapped. They didn't survive in a world run by evil easily - or without suffering humiliation.
I don't need to prove it was Iran. What I can say is that the pattern of behavior indicates what I described - an effort to give greater differentiation between radar signatures to prevent a repeat incident.
Something which will be drummed up as posturing - but is actually an effort to allow Iran to better police their own airspace against a mutually held opponent.
