I tried explaining the mimeograph to a 30 something the other day and got a blank stare.
I finally gave up and said it was like a Xerox machine.

Yes, we would literally press the paper up against our faces and inhale it.
And look, were still alive to talk about it!
There was a teaching shortage back then bc all of the boomers had reached school age. So anyone that had a college degree in anything could teach.
Hence the phrase, those who can't do, teach.
If a person couldn't get a job in their field they could always teach.
Now teachers have to get Master Degrees and Doctorates and do back flips.
And IMO the kids aren't any better off having teachers with extra letters behind their names.
Teaching is basically common sense and dedication.
