The Grupo Puntacana Foundation (FGPC) is a not-for-profit foundation established in 1994 to protect and preserve the natural resources of the Punta Cana region, while contributing to the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic.

The Foundation confronts environmental challenges by developing innovative solutions and implementing them in demonstration projects, which later can be expanded and replicated much larger-scale initiatives.

“We try to provide concrete solutions to different environmental challenges, particularly in the tourism and development industry, and share those experiences with other sectors of the society. Rather than tell businesses and society what they can’t do, we create examples of what they can and should seek to do. We have worked with solid waste, coral reefs, endangered species, private ecological reserves and many other areas, providing innovative solutions that can inspire others to act.” Jake Kheel, Vice President of the Grupo Puntacana Foundation.

NYC Labor Negotiator Is Key Rangel Donor, Real Estate Partner

Posted on September 22, 2008 by Carl Horowitz

At 94, most men are lucky to be alive, much less enjoying the scenery at a Caribbean seaside resort. But Ted Kheel is an unusual case of both longevity and networking. A longtime negotiator on behalf of New York City labor unions, he’s cultivated close ties to a number of Democratic Party leaders over the years, most significantly, Rep. Charles B. Rangel, D-N.Y., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. The business side of that relationship is now the subject of a possible federal investigation, a probe triggered by a series of articles appearing in the New York Post. Reporter Isabel Vincent had revealed that a real estate company co-founded by Kheel decades ago had arranged for the powerful Congressman to obtain an interest-free mortgage on a villa in the Dominican Republic. That deal opened the door for Rangel to collect what may be hundreds of thousands of dollars in unreported gross rental incom
