With both Typhoon fighters coming from the same unit it is likely that they were either flying in close formation or doing some air combat manouvering (dogfight) training.

Both ACM and formation flying require high degree of skill and practise and sometimes errors are made and accidents happen.

With a NATO AWACS operating nearby they imo were probably doing some ACM training.

Gotta love the MSM report in the Daily Express

'The pilots were able to press the ejection seat function' - makes it sound like a button on a keyboard kek.

translation - both pilots muttered the German equivalent of 'OH F#@K' and then yanked the big black and yellow ejector seat handle.

Congested German airspace, typical european weather and flying regulations hamper proper effective training too.

That is why a lot of German/Euro fast jet is done in the US.
