Imagine what a different country it would be if only half of Americans owned their own rural land, grew their own food, had their own water supply, and worked their own home-based businesses. Hard to believe that this used to be the norm.

Now everyone is trained from childhood to be obedient puppets (students), then cogs in corporate machines (employees).

God bless the parents who teach their children self-sufficiency and actual skills doing work with their hands.

Been watching "Mountain Men" where they can build their own cabins in the wilderness from scratch, hunt their own food, and make a living crafting products from the land around them.

Over time, as a nation we have traded rugged independence for comfortable & convenient dependence.

US population living in rural areas:

1790: 95%

1890: 65%

1920: <50%

1990: 25%

2016: 19%
