An investigation determined that the white 2004 GMC Envoy was being driven by the Skandia teenager. When he made a lane change into the left lane, the vehicle experienced an equipment malfunction which caused the steering wheel on the vehicle to lock to the left.

On Tuesday, June 25, just before 6 pm, police officers responded to a rollover crash near Northeast Lombard Street and Northeast 42nd Avenue. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is the 28th traffic related fatality so far this year.

Matthew Stansbury, 26, of Sylvia, was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. A 16-year-old girl, an 18-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman were taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The Ontario Provincial Police report that Kathy Banman, 17, died from her injuries. The vehicle, with four occupants, left the roadway, rolled over and submerged in a ditch full of water.
