These 7 listed supercomputers have, presumably, by now all been replaced by far more powerful ones, per the Exascale Computing Initiative. The lifetime of a supercomputer is probably no more than about 3 years, since they will always try to stay at the leading edge of technology.

These are all Department of Energy sites.
I do NOT KNOW if the DoE supercomputers and the Exascale Computing Project has any overlap at all with the NSA and its massive data collection mission. I do not know if the supercomputers are used solely for simulating nuclear explosions (one purported use), or weather forecasting or simulation-heavy materials design, cryptography and breaking codes, or whatever.
The nominal purpose for which they are budgeted and acquired MAY OR MAY NOT be the ACTUAL PURPOSE these machines are used for.
Or whether they are actually doing something a lil different, possibly forecasting future timelines with all the possible branches, enabling military and Q team to make precise predictions which ALWAYS COME TRUE because they are able to cause events to come to pass which dictate which timeline is the "real" one that we are living in.
