NORTH ATTLEBORO (CBS) – A woman was shot and killed in a shopping plaza parking lot in North Attleboro Saturday evening.

Police were called to the Fashion Crossing Plaza on Route 1 around 6 p.m. They found a woman, later identified as 37-year-old Brandi Berg, of Riverside, Rhode Island, wounded inside her car.

Galena woman shot, killed visiting family in Cottage Grove

Family said the single gunshot that killed 49-year-old Gloria Hentz, of Galena, came out of nowhere. They never saw a gunman. Her sister Tesha Hentz said all she saw was Gloria falling backwards onto the ground.

Gloria Hentz was in town to commemorate the third anniversary of her daughter's death. She planned to visit the cemetery where her daughter is buried on Sunday. Instead, she was shot and killed, apparently at random, at about 2 a.m. while standing on her sister's front porch at 97th Street and Dobson Avenue. The bullet struck her temple.

"We thought that she had passed out because she had recently had a slight heart attack," Tesha said.

Ethiopia mourns after officials killed during failed coup bid

Amhara president Ambachew Mekonnen, as well as his adviser were killed, while the state's attorney general, who was seriously wounded, later succumbed to his injuries.

Abiy took to national television dressed in military fatigues and described the situation in Amhara as an attempted coup.

A few hours after the attack in Amhara, army chief of staff Seare Mekonnen was shot dead in his Addis Ababa home by his bodyguard, in what the government said appeared to be "a co-ordinated attack”.

An internet shutdown has been in force across Ethiopia since Saturday's killings.

Man, 29, fatally shot in neck in doorway of Harlem deli

A gunman who laid in wait brazenly shot a man to death execution-style in the doorway of a Harlem deli Monday night, police sources said.

Leroy Phinazee, 29, walked into the Funfair Deli on Lenox Ave. at W. 137th St. just after 7 p.m. when the gunman ambushed him from behind.

Phinazee, of Woodstock, the Bronx, “definitely was the intended target,” said a police source.

“He was waiting for him outside the store,” said the source. “He followed him in and shot him once in the neck from behind."

Skydiving plane in Hawaii crash that killed 11 was involved in prior incident

Investigators are trying to determine what caused a skydiving plane to crash over the weekend in Hawaii killing all 11 people on board. It's the second incident involving the same plane.

Three years ago, the same plane that crashed was involved in a mid-air incident in Northern California. A video purportedly shows the plane spinning and forcing the 14 skydivers inside to jump out early.

2 men found shot, dead in rural Washington state ID’d

The sheriff’s office says 84-year-old Vernon Snider of Amboy died of multiple gunshot wounds to the head and his death was ruled a homicide.

The other man, identified as 56-year-old Robert Rowland of Amboy, also died of a gunshot wound to the head and his death was ruled a suicide.

Virginia cardiologist shot and killed while on vacation in Belize

the body of 53-year-old Gary Swank, a cardiologist at Virginia Tech's Carilion Clinic, was found floating face down with several gunshot wounds over the weekend in a lagoon in San Pedro.

Swank, who also taught at Virginia Tech's medical school, was traveling in the Central American nation with his wife and children, neighbors told local news station WSLS.

The avid fly fisherman had chartered a day trip with a local tour guide, 53-year-old Mario Graniel, who was also fatally shot on the fishing expedition.

Belize Police Commissioner Chester Williams said in a press conference Monday the tour guide had a disagreement with a local gang kingpin, and that Swank was a "victim of circumstance," according to a recording from the San Pedro Sun newspaper.

Mississippi teacher killed in Louisiana; 2 arrested

Fred McCray Jr. McCray gave a ride to two people Sunday, investigators told KNOE-TV . He was shot in the head and his body was hidden under plywood and garbage at an old food plant in Ferriday, Louisiana.

The suspects were identified as 48-year-old Jimmy O'Neal Lewis of Ferriday and Cedric Tennessee, whose home and age weren't available. Both were arrested and face first-degree murder charges.

Friends mourn skateboarder allegedly killed by suspect in Alhambra deputy shooting

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – A skateboarding community in Los Angeles is mourning the shooting death of Dmitry Koltzof, a sportsman who was allegedly killed by the same gunman who would go on to murder an off-duty deputy in Alhambra.

As an athlete he took risks. Yet it was when Kolzof was walking in a downtown Los Angeles industrial area favored by skateboarders that he allegedly was confronted by suspect Rhett Nelson of Utah.

According to investigators Nelson also randomly targeted Deputy Joseph Solano an hour later in Alhambra.

Kolzhof was once a snowboarding contender on the international level but set it aside to instead encourage others.

Now on a GoFundMe page headlined Support Dima's Family, friends are raising money to assist family members coming from Russia and finance the transport of Kolzhof's body back to his homeland.

"I would just like to say thank his family because it was a gift for us to be around him and learn so much from him," says friend Sylvia Mena.

Racine cocaine dealer shot confidential informant, then shot man who witnessed the shooting

RACINE COUNTY — New charges were filed Wednesday, June 26 against a Racine man who was one of Wisconsin’s Most Wanted. Prosecutors said he shot and wounded a confidential informant who purchased cocaine from him, and he later shot a man who witnessed that shooting.

FOX6 News profiled Dedrick Flowers in November 2018, when U.S. Marshals were looking for Flowers — and said he tried to kill two people over the course of a few weeks. In October 2018, officials said Flowers shot the first victim in the back of the head. In November 2018, officials said he shot another person five to six times, after waiting for the victim to go to his car. Both victims survived. A tip led to Flowers’ arrest in December 2018.

Red Wing police arrest suspect in 'very unusual' shooting

D’andre Shawn Hicks, 28, of Tampa, Fla., was taken by ambulance to Mayo Health System-Red Wing, before being airlifted to Mayo Clinic Hospital–Saint Marys in Rochester. His condition was unknown Wednesday afternoon.

Red Wing Police said they had arrested 19-year-old Michael Reyes in Woodbury in connection with the Plum Street shooting. Investigators described the shooting as “very unusual.” The man was shot in daylight on a busy city street just three blocks from the Goodhue County Justice Center.

Providence police ID homicide victim; believe he was targeted

Freddy Tola, 36, of Providence, was shot to death while waiting for his car to be fixed at A.E. LaTour Auto Body, 422 Valley Street, at 9:30 p.m., the police said.

Police said Tuesday night that they believe the victim was targeted.

“The suspect entered the garage by an open garage door and seemed to specifically target Mr. Tola, and he shot him at close range,” said Providence police Detective Captain Tim O’Hara at a press briefing on Wednesday.

state police found the body of 32-year-old Elmer Jimenez floating in the river about 11:30 a.m. in the 5700 block of West 47th street in suburban Forest View, Illinois State Police said.

Investigators with state police believe Jimenez may have been a casualty of the sunken boat found four miles upstream, state police said.

Off-duty Chicago police officer, 25, shot in head, 'battling for his life': Police

The officer was driving with a woman at about 1:38 a.m. Wednesday when he noticed a black Toyota following him and they called 911, Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson said.

Someone in the Toyota fired shots at the officer's car, hitting him in the head, Johnson said.

Official: Soldiers found dead at Mexico-Arizona border died by suicide

The deaths of Pfc. Steven Hodges of Menifee, Calif., and 21-year-old Pfc. Kevin Christian of Haslet, Texas, occurred weeks apart. Pima County Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Greg Hess announced his determination on Thursday.

Hodges was found June 1 near the border city of Nogales; Christian died Sunday, 200 miles away in Ajo.

Military officials said the deaths are still under investigation.
