He's going to sell the risk to the state. China traditionally absorbs the risk in the state or in State Owned Enterprises. It's essentially an ongoing state subsidy to the economy, and I don't see this as particularly different if the state will take on that risk.

When does the model of kids going $500,000 into debt to attend US medical school start to fail?

 

Maybe already. I hear from a faculty member at a major medical school that the quality of med students has been going down. Medicine is no longer as desirable nor as good a cost/benefit tradeoff as it used to be.

 

I fear our system is set up to cause this to crash, rather than smoothly degrade, the quality of medical care here.
