Major Israeli Airstrike On Syria Just As Russian-Supplied S-300 Went Operational

Hours after Israeli reports said Russian S-300 anti-air defense systems in Syria came online and were "operational," the Israeli military allegedly launched a major aerial attack on Syria in the middle of the night Sunday.

According to a breaking AFP report:

Syria said Israeli jets attacked several military sites near the capital Damascus and the central city of Homs early Monday, killing several people.

State news agency SANA said that Syrian air defense had intercepted several of the incoming missiles that were fired from Lebanese airspace.

Syria reported its aerial defense systems were active during the assault, which further caused damage to multiple civilian homes in the Damascus suburb of Sahnaya, according to SANA.

The major Syrian military airport at Mezzeh on the western edge of Damascus was also a reported target in the attack.

Military source: Air defenses intercept Israeli aggression on military sites in Homs and Damascus

Damascus, SANA-A military source said that the army air defenses confronted hostile missiles launched by Israeli warplanes at midnight from Lebanese airspace towards some of our military sites in Homs and the surrounding of Damascus.

Meanwhile, SANA reporter said that due to pressure resulting from the explosions in the heaven of Damascus surroundings, a number of civilians’ houses in Sahnaya town were subjected to material damage, some windows were broken and a number of citizens were slightly injured.

Later, the reporter said that a number of civilians, among them a kid, were martyred and many others injured in the aggression on Damascus countryside.

On June 11th, the army air defenses intercepted an Israeli missiles aggression on Tal al-Hara in the southern region, downing a number of the missiles.

Israeli Strikes On Damascus And Homs, Injures Or Kills Many Civilians (Videos)

In the early hours of July 1, Israeli warplanes carried out a series of airstrike on several military targets in the Syrian capital of Damascus and in the central governorate of Homs.

The Syrian Arab Air Defense Forces (SyAAF) intercepted several Israeli missiles over Damascus and south of Homs. However, most of the missiles were able to hit their targets.

According to pro-government sources, military positions in the districts of al-Mazzeh, al-Dimass and Jomrayah north and northwest of Damascus, as well as three bases in the outskirt of the city of Homs were hit.

One of the Israeli missiles also hit a civilian area in the district of Sahnaya west of Damascus. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said that 4 civilians, including a 3-month old baby, were killed as a result. 22 other civilians, mostly women and children, were injured.

This was the first time an Israeli strike on Syria leads to civilian casualties, a dangerous development that may force Damascus to rethink its strategy towards Israel.

The Israeli strike was one of the biggest this year, which confirms that Tel Aviv is not only determined to go on with its attacks on Syria, but also to step-up their scale and intensity.
