Besides being billionaires and spending much of their fortunes to promote pet causes, the leftist financier George Soros and the right-wing Koch brothers have little in common. They could be seen as polar opposites. Soros is an old-fashioned New Deal liberal. The Koch brothers are fire-breathing right-wingers who dream of cutting taxes and dismantling government.

Now they have found something to agree on: the United States must end its “forever war” and adopt an entirely new foreign policy.

In one of the most remarkable partnerships in modern American political history, Soros and Charles Koch, the more active of the two brothers, are joining to finance a new foreign-policy think tank in Washington.

Castro: Transgender Women Should Have the Right to Abortion

Democratic presidential candidate Julián Castro said Wednesday his health care plan would protect abortions for transgender women, who are not able to get pregnant.

NBC moderator Lester Holt noted every candidate on the stage at the first Democratic primary debate supported abortion rights, and Castro replied in the affirmative when asked if his government health care plan would cover abortions.

"I don't believe only in reproductive freedom. I believe in reproductive justice," Castro said to applause from the Miami audience. "What that means is that just because a woman—or let's also not forget someone in the trans community, a trans female—is poor, doesn't mean they shouldn't exercise that right to choose. So I would absolutely would cover the right to have an abortion."

Castro perhaps meant trans males in his response, since trans females were born male and don't have uteruses.

The Sacramento Bee reported in 2017 there was a potential scientific possibility for them to receive uterus transplants and have children, although it also conceded "all documented trials on uterus implants have been with patients who were born female."

Castro said abortion rights were under assault in Republican-led states, and he said he would appoint judges who follow Roe v. Wade as precedent. Several leading 2020 Democratic candidates have said they would codify the landmark abortion decision if they became president.

Jimmy Carter: Trump ‘Didn’t Actually Win the Election’

'He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered'

Former president Jimmy Carter took aim at sitting president Donald Trump Friday morning, suggesting his presidency is illegitimate and that he did not actually win the 2016 election.

Presidential historian Jon Meacham interviewed the Georgia Democrat at a Carter Center panel on human rights hosted at Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Virginia.

"Russia has been proven by our intelligence community to have interfered with one of our human rights, which is the right of free and fair elections," Meacham asked. "What is your reaction? How should we deal with Russia?"

Carter responded that Trump should personally "condemn it and admit that it happened, which I think sixteen of the intelligence agencies have already agreed to say."

"There is no doubt that the Russians did interfere in the election," he continued, "and I think the interference, although not yet quantified, if fully investigated would show Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016. He lost the election, and he was put into office because the Russians interfered on his behalf."

"So do you believe President Trump is an illegitimate president?" asked Meecham.

Carter hesitated to answer the question, causing the audience to laugh. "Based on what I just said, which I can’t retract," he eventually said, to more laughter.

The former president's criticism comes less than a week after Carter praised Trump's handling of recent hostilities from Iran. "I agree with President Trump on his decision not to take military action against Iran," he told Sunday-school children at his hometown church in Plains, Georgia. "I had a lot of problems with Iran when I was in office."
