The journalists are trying to protect their own reputation by allowing a small possibility that Q is right now. Sure, they discredit Q HARD in order to not be targeted, but they're leaving themselves with the narrative later that "well, I did say that they could be right…"
Conclusion: Cabal is about to lose control of all of the jounalists who actually want to do journalism.
