"Here Hooker entered the national scene. There are two reasons for saying this: the importance of the place and the importance of the circumstances.
The Temple was the parish church of the Inner and Middle Temples of the Inns of Court and was situated in the midst of the judiciary, at the chief home of the common law profession in England.
The place was considered strategic, the appointment being the privilege of the Queen acting with the advice of her chief ministers in church and state. "
