I'll spurt my thesis [brainfart]: The Ashkenazi's got the nickname of 'nazis' and they used WWII to spin 'nationalist' into 'nazi' in order to coopt this term. If so, beautiful job!

 

Can we find references to 'nazi' being used in a derrogatory context pre-WWII and after 1828 (first use of "Ashkenazi")?
